Scriptures for November 4

Isaiah 55:1-13

There is a persistent human tendency to expect God to think and act as we do, so God has to continually remind us that His ways are not our ways. We either try to earn God’s favor, or despair of having it because of the wrong we have done. And over and over God reminds us of His grace, and the blessings He will give us when we turn to Him.

Mark 1:35-39

Most religious leaders, if they have the sort of crowds coming to them as were coming to Jesus, welcome the crowds and do what they can to give the crowds what they came for. Jesus certainly welcomed crowds sometimes and gave of his time and teaching and works of power, even when he was no doubt tired and wanted rest. But other times, as in this passage, he had other priorities – time alone with the Father, and moving on to other people who had not yet heard his message.
