Scriptures for Sunday April 16

Matthew 28:1-10

This passage is about the resurrection is marked by fear and joy. The guards at the tomb were overwhelmed by fear when the angel appeared. The women were afraid also, but to them the angel gave a message of joy and hope.

The women were still afraid when they left to spread the news to the disciples. The strangeness of the event, the obvious supernatural forces at work, the unknown future in which the rules of life and death had been changed – all of that left them feeling more than a little uneasy. But even greater than their fear was their joy that Jesus was alive, and they could go share this wonderful news.

Colossians 3:1-4

Most people like the idea of new life associated with Easter, whether they believe in the Resurrection or not. But Paul makes it clear that the promise of new life is not just so we can feel better about life because there is hope for the future. New life in Christ means our behavior and attitudes are different, because now we see things from a very different perspective.
