Scriptures for Sunday July 10

Matthew 18:21-35

Ten thousand talents was a staggering amount of money. It was way more than the average person would earn in a lifetime, or even in a hundred lifetimes. Some scholars have suggested that the servant with such a huge debt might have been a tax administrator responsible for collecting taxes for a large area, who then mishandled the money and had nothing to turn over to his master. Others say Jesus was exaggerating for effect. Either way, it was a debt impossible to repay, and reminds us how great is our debt to God, and how great His mercy in forgiving us.
