Scriptures for Sunday July 3

Exodus 16:1-7

The manna in the wilderness met an immediate, practical need, feeding a huge crowd of hungry people in a place where food was very scarce. But it also became a powerful symbol of God’s provision for His people. Moses reminded the people later that it had been not only to feed them, but to humble them, and to test them, and to teach them that “man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

Matthew 4:1-4

Like the Israelites in the wilderness, Jesus was very hungry after his long fast. And he certainly had the power to turn stones into bread to satisfy his hunger. But remembering the Scriptures he had learned as a boy, he focused not on his physical hunger but his need to know and do the will of his Father.
