Scriptures for Sunday November 1

Psalm 32

This psalm is often cited as a resource for those troubled by sin and in need of forgiveness. But it also tells us what it means to be a godly person. Being godly starts with repentance and forgiveness, and continues with following God’s teaching. The godly person is also characterized by trust and joy in God.

Hebrews 11:1-16

This chapter is sometimes referred to as the “roll call of the faithful.” Here we see examples of people of faith, from back in the early chapters in Genesis to the time of the prophets. Some of these are well-known, others are more obscure, and some are not even mentioned by name.

They are set out for us as examples to follow. They lived in many different eras and a variety of circumstances, but they all had faith in God, and they all trusted God’s promises even when those promises were not fulfilled in their lifetimes.
